Overview

One of the important responsibilities played by the coronary arteries in the body. They are in charge of giving the heart blood. The coronary arteries begin to harden and narrow as people age, which causes a variety of coronary heart problems. Atherosclerosis is the term used to describe the hardening and narrowing of the coronary artery. Intense chest discomfort, or angina, is caused when these arteries get blocked, cutting off the blood supply to the heart.

Even though less severe cases of angina can be managed medically, the majority of them do need an angioplasty to restore the heart's full blood flow. Additionally, soon after a heart attack, coronary angioplasty is employed as an emergency therapy option. It raises the likelihood of survival. As stent costs in India are limited, the cost of an angioplasty rarely varies.

An established method of treating artery blockages is angioplasty. It significantly increases blood flow to the heart and lessens angina-related chest pain. Receiving a stent, however, does not imply that cardiac issues are treated. The patient must uphold a healthy lifestyle and cultivate behaviours that support a healthier heart. The following procedures must be carried out by all patients following a coronary stent angioplasty:

Exercise routinely as recommended by the cardiologist
being healthy in terms of weight
controlling other illnesses including diabetes and high blood pressure
giving up smoking
attempting to lower one's LDL cholesterol level

A stent is a little wire-mesh tube that supports the coronary artery by serving as a scaffold. It is usually permanent and made of metal. A balloon catheter is used in the angioplasty operation to insert a stent into a blocked coronary artery over a guide wire. The balloon is inflated after the catheter has been positioned around the obstructed artery, causing the stent to expand around the artery. The stent is left in place when the balloon is subsequently inflated and removed.

A coronary angioplasty typically lasts between 30 and 2 hours, depending on the individual patient. A patient with angina can frequently leave the hospital the same day or the next, but those who have had a heart attack and are having an angioplasty operation will require
